The Peterborough Scheme
The Peterborough Vocational Training Scheme was one of the first schemes to be set up in the early 1970s. It has continued to develop in order to meet the needs of today's GP Trainees and has undergone recent expansion.
There is a half-day meeting on a Tuesday afternoon throughout the Scheme attended by all Trainees and the Teaching Programme Directors. There are also full day sessions and a (non)residential two day course.
Summary of the Course
There is only one intake a year, starting in August for the 3 year Scheme and 13 GP Trainees are appointed each year.
There are four rotations each of three or four Trainees. New Trainees are appointed to one of these rotations. The Scheme contains a total of 20 months in General Practice, of this 4 months in Year 2 and 4 months in Year 3 will comprise part-time General Practice (5 sessions a week) with various Out Patient Clinics (3 sessions a week). These are known as innovative posts. The remaining time in General Practice is as a full-time placement.
